About Cochrane

Cochrane sits where the prairie starts folding into the foothills, about half an hour northwest of Calgary along the Bow River. It's a town that has held onto its western character — a historic Main Street, the Cochrane Ranche, and the famous line that wraps around MacKay's Ice Cream all summer — while quietly becoming one of Alberta's fastest-growing communities. Mountain views are part of daily life here, the Rockies sit just to the west, and the pace trades downtown density for open sky, acreages, and a genuine small-town feel that still keeps you well inside Calgary's commuter range.

What to Love

Big foothills and mountain views from much of the town. A walkable historic downtown anchored by MacKay's Ice Cream, local cafés, and Main Street shops. Easy access to the Bow River, Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, and Big Hill Springs. A strong supply of newer single-family homes, townhomes, and acreage properties across a wide price range. The Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre for hockey, skating, and swimming. The Cowboy Trail (Highway 22) at your doorstep, and Kananaskis and the mountains a short drive away.

The Lifestyle

Mornings here tend to start on a river or ranch trail, with coffee picked up somewhere on Main Street. Days are built around space — a ride, a hike, a project on the acreage, or an easy drive into Calgary for work. Evenings stay local: a brewery, a Main Street patio, or that ice cream line that never really goes away. Weekends bring the Cochrane Lions Rodeo around Labour Day, Cochrane Lights through the holidays, and the kind of mountain access most people drive hours for — here it's about forty-five minutes.
