Just northwest of Edmonton along the Sturgeon River, St. Albert is one of Alberta's oldest communities and one of its most consistently celebrated. Known as the Botanical Arts City for its commitment to green space and the public art that runs throughout, it has been recognized as one of the best small cities in Canada more than once. The Red Willow Trail System winds for nearly 100 kilometres along the river, the Saturday Outdoor Farmers' Market is one of the largest in Western Canada, and St. Albert Place, designed by Douglas Cardinal, anchors the downtown's cultural life.

The Lifestyle

Saturday mornings in St. Albert have a rhythm of their own: a stop at the Farmers' Market, a coffee on Perron Street, then a walk along the river through Lions Park. Weekdays run on a comfortable routine of school runs, errands at Village Landing or St. Albert Centre, and recreation at Servus Credit Union Place or Fountain Park. The Arden Theatre brings touring acts and local productions through year-round, and the city's cultural events calendar (Rock'n August, the International Children's Festival of the Arts) keeps the streets full. Edmonton is close enough for a night out, but most evenings, residents stay home in St. Albert by choice.
